On February 14, the Wheaton Library VITA site had helped nearly 200 taxpayers file their federal and state income tax returns or answered their tax questions. The site is open on Thursdays fron 3pm-8pm assisting taxpayers making $53,000 or below in income and having simple returns. This year the site also has to deal with the ACA Health Care tax questions which may include a penalty or shared responsibility payment if no health care has been purchased by the taxpayer (without an exemption.) Despite problems with the software, the site has e-filed most of the returns resulting in refunds being received by taxpayers in 1-2 weeks.
