167th Retiree’s Dinner Features WV Senator & Old Guard Retiree

On August 19th Barbara and I traveled to Martinsburg Air Guard, driven by fellow Guard retiree Jim Wright, to attend the annual 167th Retiree’s Dinner. Jim’s wife, Gladys, was the navigator, keeping us on the Wright(lol) path! The annual event was attended by about 170 WV guard retirees and guest speakers Harold Hunt, an Old Guard retiree and author. The 3d U.S. Infantry, traditionally known as “The Old Guard,” is the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving our nation since 1784. The Old Guard is the Army’s official ceremonial unit and escort to the president, and it also provides security for Washington, D.C., in time of national emergency or civil disturbance. Also speaking was WV State Senator Patricia Rucker who presented Kenneth Evans with a special plaque for his heroism in pulling out a pilot in a burning cargo aircraft in 1958. Barbara and I did not attend the 2016 retiree’s dinner due to my heart valve operation and stroke in August of last year. But we took over 200 photos for the event’s photoshow that you can see by clicking on the link:
