Smilebox link:http://play.smilebox.com/SpreadMoreHappy/4e4451794f544d344e7a673d0d0a Barbara and I attended the Family Day event at the Udvar-Hazy facility in Chantilly, Virginia on June 18 at the recommendation of Smithsonian B-26 Fla-Bait restorer Patrick Robinson. He told us that my former military unit from Martinsburg WV would be there with an aircrew and a C-17. We could not find Patrick during the event, but I photographed the 167th AW aricrew of SRA Drake, MSGT Joe Windle, LTCOL Marty Timko, and CAPT Ryan Gavina. We gave them four flashing US flag pins and sent the photo to the unit's newspaper Plane Talk. We also viewed the unit's Super Connie in the hangar. We also talked to members of the Capital-Wing-of-the-Airmens-Preservation-Society World War II reinactor group. One was a Devastor fan and I told him of my meeting with George Gay of the Midway WWII battle. We aslo talked to the pilot and navigator of a Russian/ Czech built jet and a B-25 Mitchell bomber...

Some Tax refunds will be delayed in 2017

New Federal Tax Law May Affect Some Refunds Filed in Early 2017; IRS to Share Details Widely with Taxpayers Starting This Summer The Internal Revenue Service has announced initial plans for processing tax returns involving the Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit during the opening weeks of the 2017 filing season. The IRS is sharing the information now to help the tax community prepare for the 2017 season, and plans are being made for a wider communication effort this summer and fall to alert taxpayers about the changes that will affect some early filers. This action is driven by the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 (PATH Act) that was enacted Dec. 18, 2015, and made several changes to the tax law to benefit taxpayers and their families. Section 201 of this new law mandates that no credit or refund for an overpayment for a taxable year shall be made to a taxpayer before Feb. 15 if...

VITA Tax Season ends and a Death in our family

Our VITA tax season for Wheaton Library VITA ended on April 18 this year ( I actually prepared a couple of returns on April 19) with over 450 people helped at our Taxwise sites, and 214 military active duty helped at our USO-Bethesda ( Walter Reed) site. Our Taxwise sites included the Long Branch library in Silver Spring, and the Rockville Housing Enterprises facility located off Gude Drive. In addition, I prepared returns for a couple of WWII Navy vets at the Old Soldiers Home/ Lincoln Cottage in D.C. Our numbers were over 40 percent smaller than last years due to the death of one of our prolific Hispanic preparers, German Sigurany, the moving of our library location from Wheaton Library to Long Branch ( Wheaton Library is being renovated), and the loss of a half dozen veteran preparers. Three new preparers did join or ranks, and they are very quick learners and have a extensive tax background. But...

We attend and photograph Celebration of Volunteers at Ft Belvoir

Barbara and I attended the USO-Metro 2016 Celebration of Volunteers awards luncheon at the Ft Belvoir Officers Club on April 9. It was a difficult trip due to the heavy snow showers and icy rain. But it seems that there were few no shows, because the snow mostly melted by the opening ceremonies at 11:00am. I took lots of photos ( Barbara took only a few) and I put 94 in a photoshow.
