Tax Season to Start Late

2014 Tax Season to Start Later Following Government Closure; IRS Sees Heavy Demand As Operations Resume WASHINGTON–The Internal Revenue Service today announced a delay of approximately one to two weeks to the start of the 2014 filing season to allow adequate time to program and test tax processing systems following the 16-day federal government closure. The IRS is exploring options to shorten the expected delay and will announce a final decision on the start of the 2014 filing season in December, Acting IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said. The original start date of the 2014 filing season was Jan. 21, and with a one- to two-week delay, the IRS would start accepting and processing 2013 individual tax returns no earlier than Jan. 28 and no later than Feb. 4. The government closure came during the peak period for preparing IRS systems for the 2014 filing season. Programming, testing and deployment of more than 50 IRS systems is needed to handle processing of nearly 150...

Honor Flight Austin and Halloween Party coming!

Barbara and I took the subway and then a Big Bus (tour bus) to the World War II Memorial so we could photograph and honor 15 World War II veterans from the Austin Texas Honor Flight organization. This was a make up honor flight for the Texas group. But I gave each veteran a flashing US flag pin and took lots of photos of the group and their guardians at the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, and Lincoln Memorial. Earlier in the day the group had gone to Arlington and to the Iwo Jima sites, but we did not meet them there or at the airports as we sometimes do.....But we still took lots of photos to be made into a photoshow soon. Stay tuned! Also I received some VITA supplies for the next tax season for my site from the MD Cash association.  Filing season will be a bit [caption id="attachment_745" align="alignnone" width="300"]Austin Honor Flight at WWII Memorial October 22

Oktoberfest at USO-Metro!

Barbara and I took lots of photos at the 8th Annual Oktoberfest held at the Four Points by Sheraton on October 18. The event included an "All You Can Eat Buffet", music by the band "Memories", lots of great raffle prizes,  and dancing of all types.  We took over 500 photos, but only 263 are included in the photoshow. Go to my photos or photoshow page and click on the link to view the show!...

Honor Flight and Circus Photography

During the last few weeks Barbara and I have taken hundreds of honor flight and circus photos for volunteer organizations and friends.  During this time our computer has had problems and we upgraded to a new custom made desktop from VitalTech Computer Repair in Silver Spring, MD. The new computer has 8 Gigs of RAM and 1.8 terabytes of hard drive....but at times it is too fast for my editing and photoshow programs.  This sometimes causes my computer to turn itself off or freeze a program.  But I am slowly getting my photoshows finished, including the Austin Honor Flight #9 on September 27-28.  So be patient...the circus shots are very interesting, especially since I had to use ISO of 3200!
